Preparing your Submission

You may submit articles, research pieces, essays, reviews, personal narratives, fiction and non-fiction stories, poetry, and other forms of creative writing. We also accept photos, drawings, paintings, comics, and other visual art.

Guidelines

  1. There is no length limitation for written submissions.
  2. Please send images in the highest possible quality.
  3. For the photography section, you are free to submit as many photos as you would like. However, not all of them might be included due to formatting constraints. The selection could be further edited during the proof process.
  4. We encourage submissions following the theme of the issue, but this is not required.
  5. Please include which category your submission fits into, a title for your piece, and your preferred author name for crediting.
  6. If you're submitting art, include notes on arrangement or color pairing preferences. Otherwise we will take liberties with the formatting of your submission.
  7. Subject line for submissions should include "Huesera Submission". Include the text for your submission in the body of the email. Alternatively you can send us an invitation to a Google document. Please do not send any text in pdf format.
  8. Include any images as email or Drive attachments.

You will be sent a proof through Canva, so you can make any final revisions. Please do the revision before the deadline or let us know if you agree with the content. Otherwise we won't include it in the issue.

If you have a proposal for a special project or non-standard submission please reach out to discuss it! We encourage thinking outside the box.

AI Notice:

Our vision for Huesera Magazine is to create a space to showcase and celebrate your artistic creations, we want to encourage learning and experimenting with your own capabilities. We want to be part of the documentation of your growth as writer, photographer, graphic designer, etc, and to provide a community of support. We believe that the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence disturbs the honing of these skills and means of expressions. In order to stay true to this vision, we discourage the use of GenAI. While as ESL speakers we understand the convenience of LLMs for translation, transcription and spelling/grammar checks, the use of images and content that are produced solely by AI will not be included. However, we know that for you it might not be so black and white so if you made use of AI produced material to critic it, shape it, or manipulate it in any form after its generation please let us know! We will be happy to discuss and consider it.
